The DCS of Flickr

There is no such thing as a universally useful scheme. large open participatory systems such as [tag]flickr[/tag] and [tag]delicious[/tag] are too diverse for this, most of the information will be largely useless in the larger social context. Not to say that you will not occasionally come across a convergence of [tag]tag[/tag]ging, that is interesting of even useful.

The emphasis right now is the discovery of resources, i.e. using the [tag]tags[/tag] to find something useful that you previously did not know was out there. This is the natural way to think of and use these kinds of services. Finding resources is the biggest battle of using the internet, and since these [tag]tag[/tag]s become ‘categories’ of a sort it makes it easier to discover content on the net. It organises and makes available to everyone resources that would otherwise be hard to find.

Looking at it the other way around — looking at the [tag]tag[/tag]s that are attached to the resource. searching via [tag]tag[/tag]s and seeing what other [tag]tag[/tag]s are attached. The [tag]tag[/tag]s provide a wider context of the topic / subject you are searching for. Most interestingly in this particular area is the mis-match of [tag]tag[/tag]s that occurs in this situation, and the results you can get.
